Stay There: A Brushed Display Font That Elevates Web Design

Testing Stay There in a Real Web Layout

Just last week, I was putting the finishing touches on a boutique coaching website and needed a strong visual hook for the hero section. I’d heard about Stay There — a brushed display font that promises a modern, handcrafted feel — and decided to test it in a live layout. I dropped it into the main headline over a soft lifestyle image, and right away, the type came alive. It wasn’t just legible; it spoke to the brand’s personality — calm, confident, and slightly artistic.

As a web designer, I’m always on the lookout for fonts that can carry a brand’s tone without sacrificing usability. Stay There, with its soft brush texture and open spacing, felt like a perfect fit for this project. It’s not overly ornate, but it definitely adds a human touch that clean sans serifs sometimes miss.

How Stay There Performs in Digital Design

I used Stay There for the hero headline on a product landing page and also tested it in a few other areas like section headers, CTA buttons, and promotional banners. On mobile, the font scaled surprisingly well — the brushed texture remained crisp without becoming pixelated or muddy. That’s a win for responsive design, especially since many decorative fonts tend to lose clarity at smaller sizes.

One of the best things about Stay There is how it enhances visual hierarchy. I paired it with a clean sans serif for body text, and the contrast helped guide the eye naturally from the headline to the supporting content. It worked especially well in a hero section with a dark overlay — the light text popped beautifully without compromising readability.

Where Stay There Shines — And Where It Doesn’t

This font really comes into its own in short, high-impact placements. It’s perfect for:

However, I wouldn’t recommend it for long-form content or small UI elements like form labels or navigation menus. It’s a display font through and through — meant to draw attention, not to be read extensively. On a dashboard layout I tested, it felt out of place and slightly distracting. So while it’s a beautiful typeface, it’s best used intentionally and sparingly.

Practical Tips for Using Stay There in Web Design

Here are a few things I learned while working with Stay There:

  1. Pair it with simplicity. A modern sans serif like Montserrat or Lato works great as a companion font.
  2. Check contrast carefully. On light backgrounds, make sure there’s enough color contrast for accessibility.
  3. Use it for impact. This font shines in headlines, banners, and branding moments — not in paragraphs or forms.
  4. Test on mobile early. While it scales well, always preview on real devices to ensure legibility.
  5. Verify webfont licensing. If you’re using it on a client site or online store, confirm that the license allows for web embedding.

I also appreciated that the font came with multiple weights and web-optimized formats. It loaded quickly and didn’t cause any layout shifts — a big plus for Core Web Vitals and overall user experience.

Final Thoughts: A Thoughtful Addition to Any Web Designer’s Toolkit

Stay There isn’t just another decorative font — it’s a versatile display typeface that can elevate a digital brand experience when used thoughtfully. Whether you’re designing a creative portfolio, a boutique online store, or a promotional landing page, this brushed font adds a personal, handcrafted touch that resonates with visitors.

As with any font, context is key. Stay There won’t replace your go-to body font, but it can definitely be the highlight of your brand’s digital identity. If you’re looking for a way to inject warmth and character into your next web project, give Stay There a try — it might just be the finishing touch you didn’t know your design was missing.
